Take A Trip Under Your Budget

December 6th, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Looking at hotel rooms is almost as enjoyable as looking at a new apartment or house. In the same way that you get excited about all of the new possibilities and excitement that comes from something new like a new house or apartment, you get a little bit of that feeling when picking out your hotel room.

Whether it is for a vacation or company trip, the excitement of comparing the rooms, looking at the amenities and views and what you should expect from the hotel, builds up the excitement for the trip. It’s the same when you’re planning the actual trip. Whenever you’re doing something like planning a vacation, there are a million questions to be asked and a million decisions to be made.

But the difference between these decisions and decisions made for everyday life is that you like to make them and the pressure is taken away because you know that you want to go. You get to start from scratch and plan every little thing that you are going to do and manage the entire trip before it happens. Most people do not have control over their daily lives like this, and I think that is among the aspects that make it so much fun. Having control over every decision.

No one is telling you that you have to wake up at a certain time to be at work by eight o’clock. Nobody is telling you what time the project needs to be done or what time to be in the staff meeting. You get to control all of these things, from what time you wake up to what restaurants you will visit and what is going to fill up every second of that day. You could even spend the entire weekend in bed watching television and ordering room service if you want, but that might not fit with everybody’s idea of a great time.

The point is, when you begin planning that vacation, what room you pick and what location you decide on will have a big impact on how good a time you have. Your room is the place that you return to in order to rest and relax and get ready for the next big day. You don’t need to be worrying about things such as how many towels you have and if the linens are clean. You want to know that they are ahead of time, and by being able to compare rooms on the web, you’ll be.

Traveller Health Insurance

December 1st, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Quite honestly, we have never purchased travel health insurance. We have friends who have though, and as we get older, it is something that we give more thought to.

The problem with travel health insurance (as we see it) is that, just like trip insurance, it can be very confusing and daunting trying to find the right policy for you.

One place to start is to see if you are already covered in some way. Check your personal medical insurance policy, check with your credit card company… even check with places like your automobile association to see if you have some sort of evacuation insurance.

Weigh the risks you’ll face on your travels….

– How is your health? Do you have a condition that might cause you to need medical care while you are on your trip?

– Where will you be going? Do they have good and affordable medical care for non-residents?

– Can you find an affordable policy?

You may find that you have some coverage already. Well, then, is it enough or do you need to supplement it? If you decide that you do need travel health insurance, you need to read and compare policies so you get the right coverage for you.

– Does the policy cover emergency hospital or medical costs? Do they pay when you get the care or do they reimburse you later?

– Are you covered if you have a pre-existing condition?

– Do they have a help line that can aid you in finding a doctor who can speak your language?

– Does the policy provide medical evacuation back to your country if that is the best way to get treatment for you?

Get several quotes and read the fine print. Make sure that you are comparing “apples to apples”… Don’t assume that every policy defines a certain term in the same way. Check on the deductibles and how much your co-payment will be.

Keep in mind that you are buying travel health insurance for emergencies. Don’t think you can go to a clinic if you come down with a cold on your trip… these policies typically do not cover non-emergency care.

If you are engaging in risky activities, you might not be covered…. risky activities can be rock climbing and mountaineering, but bungee jumping and scuba diving might also be excluded. If you choose to travel to a country where your government has issued a travel advisory, the whole trip might be considered a risky activity and exclude you from coverage!

Stately Oaks Plantation

November 29th, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Clayton County, Georgia is said to be the legendary home of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell’s famous Civil War novel. Stately Oaks Plantation may well have been the inspiration for Mitchell’s fictional Tara, home of Scarlett O’Hara. Mitchell was very familiar with the area and spent many childhood visits at nearby plantation homes belonging to her grandparents and great grandparents. She imagined what life was like for people living in homes such as these.

Stately Oaks, with its white columns and double front porches, is a fine example of the plain Greek Revival style. The antebellum home was built in 1839 and was spared from destruction during the Civil War. It is said to have housed both Northern and Southern troops in 1864. Stately Oaks has been beautifully restored and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home was not originally located on this site, but was moved here for preservation along with the other historic structures. The grounds have been designated as the Margaret Mitchell Memorial Park.
The plantation depicts life in the rural South during the mid 1800s. Docents in period costumes give tours of the house relating its history, interesting anecdotes about the area, and background information on Margaret Mitchell. Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County, Inc. also has audio tours available. The home is beautifully furnished with period pieces. Outside on the grounds is the plantation’s original log kitchen. A well house, tenant house, and other authentic outbuildings are also located on the grounds. Visitors may look inside the Bethel School House, the last one room school used in Clayton County. Juddy’s Country Store, circa 1896, sells a variety of souvenirs and snacks. The store is open from 10am-4pm. The grounds contain many large oak trees, and visitors may want to enjoy a picnic in the adjacent park.

A number of special activities and events are held at Stately Oaks throughout the year, including the popular lunch and dinner tours. During the month of August docents will lead Victorian Mourning Tours. The house will be draped in black, as it would have been following a death in the family during that period. Docents will explain the customs and rituals of mourning common in the 1800s.
